The First Flying Geely Rolls Off the Assembly Line (2 photos)
Aerofugia, a Geely subsidiary, has assembled the first pre-production prototype of its AE200-100 model using assembly-line technology. This so-called eVTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) vehicle is planned for mass production and sale for civilian use, including in urban areas. However, before entering service, the drone will need to undergo a series of tests.
At 9 meters long and 4.6 meters tall, the Aerofugia AE200-100 has a wingspan of 14.5 meters, which are supported by pylons with propellers. The copter can accommodate five people, including the pilot, and has a range of up to 200 kilometers. The developers envision this vehicle as an air taxi for connections between cities and airports, as public transportation within metropolitan areas, as a rescue vehicle, or even as a low-altitude sightseeing vehicle.
Pre-production units, assembled using full-scale assembly-line production technology, will be used for both internal and certification testing. Mass production of the AE200-100 is planned for 2026. Aerofugia is said to have already received over a thousand commercial orders for the passenger copter. The company plans to expand both production volume and model range by building a new production facility in Chengdu, which will also house a research center.
