Electric cars Mercedes-Benz EQE turned out to be almost useless to anyone (10 photos)
Production of two premium mid-size electric vehicles will be terminated ahead of schedule due to weak sales.
The Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan, unveiled in 2021, and the EQE SUV crossover based on it that followed a year later will be discontinued in 2026, Autocar reports. The first is produced at a plant in Bremen, the second - overseas, at a branch in Tuscaloosa.
An indirect confirmation of the still unofficial information is the fact that in the summer the company paused accepting orders for a number of its cars, including the EQE line. The reason is obvious - low demand. In the first half of 2025, the manufacturer was able to sell only 2,300 EQEs worldwide, or 74.5% less than a year earlier, Autoblog states.
Another incentive to get rid of unpopular models was the Germans' desire to quickly launch promising new products on an 800-volt architecture. We are talking about the battery version of the C-class, made similarly in the form of a sedan and an SUV GLC EQ. These cars will appear in 2026 and will be more affordable than the EQE with a similar level of equipment.
As for the direct replacement for the EQE - the electric sedan of the E-class, it should not be expected before 2027. Considering that the brand's mostly conservative clientele did not understand and did not accept the idea of EQ as a separate sub-brand, which, by the way, is confirmed by the failure of the flagship EQS, the successor will be as close as possible to the gasoline E-class.
