A bear stole a bag with firefighting equipment

Surveillance video was published by the city's fire department. In the caption, they joked that it was likely "Smokey the Bear," who "walked in, grabbed our bag, made a quick exit, and said: thanks, I'll take it from here."

It is not yet known whether the bag was recovered. Along with the video, the firefighters posted advice from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Bears are currently putting on weight before winter hibernation, so the risk of encountering them is rising.

The agency recommends removing bird feeders, keeping pets indoors, and securely storing food and trash. If you encounter a bear, you should make loud noises to scare it off: any encounter with humans should be uncomfortable for the animal.

Firefighters also emphasized that feeding bears is dangerous for both people and animals. "Dependence on human food puts both people and bears at risk," the post stated.
