Old Porsche 911 made cooler than the modern 911 GT3 (8 photos)
British company Theon Design has unveiled its latest restomod based on the 964-generation Porsche 911. Among other things, it's equipped with a modified naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter straight-six engine—it produces only 421 hp, but thanks to its carbon fiber body, the restomod has a better power-to-weight ratio than a modern 911 GT3. The tuners haven't disclosed the price of a specific example, but Theon Design's rebuild of vintage Porsches typically starts at £430,000 ($580,000), excluding the price of the donor car.
The restomod's boxer engine generates approximately 440 Nm of torque, which is equivalent to just over a ton of curb weight. It is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. The chassis uses semi-active components from TracTive suspension company.
Both the powertrain and shock absorbers have several operating modes, including the most aggressive Raucus preset, which positions the rear spoiler and exhaust system control valve.
The carbon fiber body is complemented by a redesigned interior with Recaro bucket seats, a custom instrument panel, and an audio system featuring components from Becker, Hertz, and Focal. Wireless phone charging is also included.
Theon Design builds no more than six restomods per year, as not only the exterior styling but also the powertrain and chassis tuning are tailored to the customer's specifications.
