The first road charging electric cars was opened in the USA (2 photos)
The city of Detroit and the company Electreon have opened the first road section in the United States capable of recharging the batteries of electric vehicles traveling on the highway. The technology is planned to be used on other Michigan highways in the future. However, the project also had critics.
North America's first car charging road is just 400 meters long. The site is considered experimental. Coils installed under the coating are responsible for transmitting electricity, but only cars equipped with a wireless battery charging device can receive energy.
The creators of the road especially note that it is completely safe for pedestrians, wild animals and other types of transport.
The publication notes that the technology could be useful, for example, on city streets: charging while driving would make life easier not only for ordinary owners of electric cars, but also, for example, for delivery service employees who use electric vehicles.
Electreon is known for its developments in the field of wireless charging. Similar roads are already being tested in some European countries. In addition, this spring, the startup conducted an unusual experiment, forcing a hybrid Toyota RAV4 to drive almost 2 thousand kilometers without an internal combustion engine with a rated range of 68 kilometers.
