A meteor flew over Japan. It lit up the night sky as if it were daytime. The meteor was observed by residents of Kagoshima, Miyazaki, Osaka and several other cities.
Residents of Japan witnessed an impressive celestial phenomenon - an extremely bright meteor flew across the sky, illuminating everything around as if it were daytime. The event occurred on August 19 at about 23:00 local time.
The flash was so powerful that for a moment it became as bright as daytime, and the outlines of houses could be clearly distinguished. Some eyewitnesses even felt the vibration of the air from the flying object. Videos and photos of the bright ball quickly spread on social networks.
The head of the Sendai Space Museum, Toshihisa Maeda, explained that it was a very bright meteor, probably more than a meter in size. According to his assessment, the object most likely burned up in the atmosphere and fell into the Pacific Ocean
Particularly bright meteors are called bolides. They occur when relatively large fragments of space bodies, usually more than a meter, enter the Earth's atmosphere. The brightness of some of them can reach the lunar brightness and even exceed it.
