The US government hastened to put an end to all speculation about aliens and reported that in fact it was a meteor. However, people didn't care.

Residents of the small town of Kecksburg (Pennsylvania, USA) have annually celebrated the day of the appearance of an alleged UFO for almost 60 years.

One December night in 1965 changed the future of a small American town forever after residents reported seeing something very strange falling from the sky. Kecksburg has since become famous for its supposed UFO crash.

On December 9, 1965, a huge “fireball” was seen across seven US states and Canada, streaking across the night sky and landing in a forest. It was also spotted over Kecksburg. Residents quickly learned about the news and were sure that it was indeed a UFO that had flown to their city.

The US government hastened to put an end to all speculation about the aliens and informed all interested parties that in fact it was a meteor that fell to Earth. However, residents of Kecksburg have already begun jokingly calling the object that fell from the sky a “space acorn” because of its unusual shape.

Over time, people began to celebrate the day of the encounter with the alleged UFO. An annual three-day festival celebrating the event is hosted by the Kecksburg Fire Department.

"It's really amazing, I loved it! It was almost like a flea market with vendors selling things related to aliens and UFOs. I bought a great poster of an acorn shaped craft in Kecksburg at the crash site - 10/10. It's really amazing. I wish I could have been there the other two days,” one local who attended this year’s event wrote on Reddit.

The publication notes that the Kecksburg UFO case received widespread publicity in 1990 after it was featured in the television show Unsolved Mysteries. In it, city residents were asked about this incident. The show's cast members even made a replica of the "space acorn," which was later donated to Kecksburg.
