Speedster with an unusual appearance - 1956 Lotus Eleven Sports up for auction (32 photos)
A 1956 Lotus Eleven Sports speedster has appeared at Bring a Trailer auction. The car is in far from original condition, so the bid is low for now - only 30 thousand dollars. However, there are still 4 days before the end of trading and significant growth is quite possible.

Over the course of three years in the mid-1950s, 270 of these machines were produced. The car weighs only 411 kilograms. The model was equipped with Ford Coventry-Climax engines with a volume of 1.1 liters and a power of 76 hp. Lotus Eleven Sports achieved seventh place at Le Mans in 1956 and the speed record driven by Stirling Moss in the same year.
Despite this, this particular piece is unlikely to be of interest to authenticity-obsessed collectors. Its engine, although from the same Coventry-Climax family, is already 1.2-liter. The front and rear suspension do not correspond to the original. And even the body color has been changed.
Of the exterior body panels, only the hood and windshield are original. During recent refurbishments, some parts were replaced to not meet the original specifications or installed in the wrong locations. And yet, this dark green car with a cockpit for two, trimmed in red leather, retained the ability to attract attention.
Perfect and authentic Lotus Eleven Sports examples cost up to $120,000.
