American company Feld Motorsports announced it has set a top speed record for monster trucks—giant off-road vehicles with wheels as tall as a man. Their new vehicle, dubbed "Power Rush," reached 103 mph (165.7 km/h) at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Officially, the top speed of a Lada Granta with a 90-horsepower engine is 179 km/h.
The Power Rush was designed and built primarily for traditional monster truck shows like Monster Jam, featuring jumps and stunts, but with the ability to accelerate to serious speeds while maintaining stability and control. To this end, not only the chassis and powertrain were optimized, but also the aerodynamics of the vehicle, which stands over 3.5 meters tall and weighs approximately 5.5 tons. Specifically, the Power Rush features a streamlined plastic body and a massive rear wing.
There is no information about the monster truck's engine. One theory is that it is an 8.85-liter V8 producing between 1,500 and 2,000 hp. The SUV was piloted by Camden Murphy, a former Indy 500 competitor who joined the Monster Jam team in 2017.
The previous speed record in this discipline was set in 2022 by a car called Bad Habit and stood at 163.9 km/h. Thus, it was blocked at less than 2 km/h.
