Africa's most clumsy predator: an aardwolf cub has conquered social media (7 photos)
Meet the aardwolf cub, one of Africa's most harmless predators. Despite its menacing name, this animal is hardly related to true wolves: in fact, it's related to hyenas and spends most of its life eating termites. The aardwolf is certainly not a fierce fighter. Nature hasn't endowed it with powerful fangs or exceptional strength, so it must survive through cunning. When threatened, the animal first raises its mane, trying to appear larger and more intimidating. If this "intimidation mode" fails, it activates a backup plan—a highly chaotic one. The aardwolf panics and produces an extremely unpleasant odor, literally trying to drive away the enemy with its stench. Evolution, as they say, made do with what it had.
