A Chinese woman with social anxiety saved 120 cats by collecting leftovers from weddings
A resident of Baoshan, Yunnan Province, has gained online popularity thanks to an unusual initiative: over the course of three years, she attended nearly 100 wedding receptions to collect uneaten food scraps. She then fed them to over 120 stray cats she rescued. She had long suffered from social anxiety, but caring for animals helped her overcome her fear of interacting with strangers.
The idea arose when she saw how much food was thrown away after weddings. She began asking wedding planners and newlyweds to collect the scraps, recycling them at home by re-steaming them to reduce the salt and oil content. This way, she saves up to 2,000 yuan a month while simultaneously reducing food waste.
Most newlyweds are understanding and supportive, sometimes even inviting her to join them at the table. At times, she has brought home up to 30 kg of food.
The girl admits that this activity gave her courage, helped her cope with anxiety, and inspired others to pay attention to the problem of homeless animals and food waste disposal in China.
