A Rare Phobia: A Girl Afraid of Fruit Tried a Pineapple for the First Time
A touching video of 28-year-old Amber Wilson, a US resident, trying a fresh pineapple for the first time, despite a long-standing fear of the fruit, is rapidly gaining traction on social media.
The video shows Wilson, visibly nervous, picking up a piece of pineapple and attempting to bite into it, while her husband gently encourages her, describing the fruit's taste and texture.
"Exposure therapy for my fruit phobia," reads the caption.
In an interview with People magazine, Amber revealed that her fear of fruit began in childhood. Every time her mother tried to offer her an apple or a banana, she would panic.
"It felt like I was standing on the edge of a cliff, and someone was about to push me off. I would start sweating, get nervous, and literally couldn't hold back the tears," she recalls. The woman is particularly repulsed by oranges: "The smell, the texture, the juice—everything about them terrifies me."
According to Wilson, her decision to record the video wasn't an attempt to gain fame. Her main motivation was concern for the future: she and her husband are planning to have children, and she wants to be able to safely treat them to fruit without panic attacks. Pineapple was only the second fruit she'd tried—the first was apples. Since then, the blogger has ventured into mango, grapes, watermelon, and blackberries, although some flavors remain too challenging for her.
She admits that without her husband's support, she wouldn't have been able to take such a step.
"He's always there, describing the flavors, helping me prepare myself mentally. It gives me strength," she says.
