A shelter with a huge TV, sofas, scratching posts, toys and meditative music is a dream come true for homeless cats. This one was discovered in the USA, and its cost was approximately 400 thousand dollars.
In the American state of Kentucky, an unusual shelter for cats, Shane's Sanctuary, was opened. It was opened by local resident Jen Malley and her husband Chip, and they take sensitive care of their furry charges. Now there are 45 cats living in the shelter - all of them were once rescued from the streets. The shelter has everything for a comfortable cat's life, and even more: cozy sofas, a large TV, many toys and scratching posts.
But maintaining such a shelter is not easy. According to the owners, it costs about $10,000 a month to feed and care for all the cats. They finance it only with their own funds and savings, but they are also helped by caring local residents. Unfortunately, no matter how many times the couple turns to the authorities with a request to build another shelter, they receive refusals - even if they offer to partially finance it and periodically support it.
“We are refused every time we want to develop some kind of program to care for animals so that they do not die on the streets,” say the spouses who own the shelter.
To keep costs under control and to prevent people from abandoning random cats, the family intentionally keeps the shelter's address secret. The shelter also has a very strict policy: if someone wants to adopt a particular cat, they must first make an appointment and talk with the shelter owners, who then make the decision.
