The opening ceremony of the World Humanoid Robot Games was held in China. The competition will be held in Beijing from August 15 to 17, bringing together 280 teams from 16 countries. Humanoid machines will compete in boxing, football, track and field, and more.

The world's first World Humanoid Robot Games will start in Beijing on August 15. This is a three-day sports and intellectual competition in which 280 teams from 16 countries will take part.

The competition will be held at the Ice Ribbon National Speed Skating Stadium. This is the same venue that hosted the speed skating events at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Now the stadium has been transformed into a high-tech arena for robots. It features an extended 2.1-meter running track, a 5-on-5 football pitch, a boxing ring, and hotel- and hospital-style courts for scenario competitions. There is a special remote control area that allows operators to control the robots.

The event will feature 487 competitions in 26 categories, ranging from traditional sports like track and field to professional tasks that simulate real work. For example, robots will need to sort and pack medicine according to prescriptions, clean hotel rooms, and operate warehouses and factory assembly lines. The games are designed to test how useful or skilled a humanoid robot can be in real-life situations.

Teams can choose between fully autonomous operation or manual control of robots. Autonomous robots rely heavily on algorithms for visual recognition and decision-making, while teleoperated robots depend on stable network connections, for which the 5G-A network is optimized.

The players include leading Chinese companies such as Yushu Technology, Xinghaitu, Tiangong, and Fourier, as well as leading universities such as Tsinghua, Peking University, and Shanghai Jiaotong University. Teams from the United States and Germany are also reported to be participating.

The games are organized by the Beijing People's Government, China Media Group, World Robot Cooperation Organization and Asia-Pacific International RoboCup Council.

Tickets range from 128 yuan to 580 yuan.
