Silicone wife. Man Lives With 30-Kilogram Copy of Dead Wife (5 photos)

15 May 2025

A touching story from India about love and longing. An Indian man ordered a silicone copy of his wife, with whom he lived for 39 years, but she died of Covid.

Looks just like a real Indian aunty from the movies

A story of love that overcomes everything

The man's name is Tapas Sandilya, he is a retired civil servant from West Bengal. He was married to a woman named Indrani, who died in the hospital during the pandemic and quarantine while he was staying at home. That's why he was very upset that he was not with his wife in her last moments. And then the husband started looking for an artist who could create a realistic silicone copy of Indrani. It took him 6 months and about $3,000.

And now a small nuance of incredible devotion... His wife herself forced him to make his own copy of Tapas! When they went to the ISKCON Ham in Mayapur ten years earlier, they were very impressed by the realistic statue of the founder of the order, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami. And then the wife made her husband promise to make one for himself if she died before him. And in 2023, Tapas was finally able to find both an artist who made an incredibly realistic copy of his wife, and the funds to do so. Now the 65-year-old man lives with a 30-kilogram silicone Indrani, whom he dressed himself in a beautiful Assamese silk sari.

He gave her an expensive bag in her hand and put on jewelry. If thieves break in, they will have a stroke

He remembered her in these clothes because that day was their son's wedding. That day, the woman was especially happy. He put the doll on a swing in their shared house, sometimes moves it so that his wife doesn’t get bored. But it’s quite difficult for him to do it himself, because he’s almost 70, and she’s as tall as a human and weighs a lot.

The family is not thrilled

“My family was categorically against the idea of installing such a realistic sculpture, but they gave in. Some of my relatives and neighbors helped in the end. If we can keep photos in frames at home after someone’s death, why not put up a statue?” Tapas told Indian journalists. I understand the family, it’s quite creepy. And how do children feel when they come to visit their father and suddenly run into a lifeless, but very realistic mother? It's like an unhealed wound that gets irritated with every visit.

And this is another widower with a silicone wife who died in a car accident. Is that how it's done in India?
