Worth thousands of dollars: a man stumbled upon a precious stone hidden in the mud (2 photos + 1 video)

Patrick Gundersen, who is keen on finding unusual stones, was combing the Australian wilderness and found a unique crystal hidden in a pile of dirt. He shared his find on Instagram*. 
A man known on social media as crystals_of_australia has shared a story about an unusual crystal. He found the quartz in the summer in the Harts Ranges in Australia's Northern Territory. Gundersen dug the stone out of the ground. He said the gem weighs over four pounds.
The gem is an elestiac quartz, mostly whitish in color with a purple tip. According to Gundersen, it has secondary growths.
"What makes it so unique is the amazing growth patterns on the sides. And when there's a perfect amethyst crystal on top, it's just unique. These patterns remind me of how incredible nature is," he said.
The publication notes that elestiale quartz is most commonly found in Brazil and Madagascar, although some specimens have been found in the United States. The fact that this crystal was found in Australia is unusual.
"Considering the rarity of the formation and the fact that it's from Australia, it could easily be worth several thousand dollars. But I decided to keep it for my collection because it's unlike anything else I've found before," he explained.
