An impatient driver pushed a lioness in an African reserve (3 photos + 1 video)
On August 9, several motorists stopped on a highway in Kruger National Park, South Africa, to let three lionesses pass. While tourists were admiring the big cats, one driver behaved outrageously.
The incident occurred on the H1-4 highway between Satara and Olifants camps. The driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser drove around the car in a hurry and then hit one of the lionesses in the back.
The footage was posted on social media, prompting a response from authorities.
It is unclear whether the act was deliberate, but the offender was fined.
Kruger National Park spokesman Ike Phaahla said: "We found him by tracking the number plate. The driver was heading to the site when he collided with the animal."
Phaahla added that he did not know the amount of the fine, but local media reported a maximum of R1,500.
A South African National Parks (SANParks) spokesman also commented: "We took immediate action as soon as we were made aware of the incident. Thank you for alerting us."
SANParks rules state that it is strictly forbidden to injure animals. The man's identity has not been released.
