Rusty 1969 Chevrolet Camaro from Paul Walker's collection will be sold at auction (22 photos)
Mecum Auctions will offer a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro for auction in August. In the photographs, the coupe looks dilapidated, but the reason for this is said to be the incomplete restoration process. Until 2013, the restoration of the car was carried out by the famous actor Paul Walker, known for the film “The Fast and the Furious,” and his friend Roger Rodas.
The coupe rolled off the production line as a Z28 with the optional RS (Rally Sport) package. In the first generation, the Camaro Z28 was equipped with a 4.9-liter V8 with a rated power of 290 hp. (it is generally accepted that it was underestimated) and a four-speed manual transmission.
The Z28 version was marketed as race-ready, so the engine was accompanied by a revised suspension, power disc brakes and special 15-inch wheels. The RS package included hidden headlights, other lights and original body trim.
Auctioneers claim that the Camaro is being sold with completely original license plate units. Judging by the photo, not only the body needs restoration, but also the engine compartment and interior, although the interior of the coupe is in relatively good condition.
After the death of Paul Walker in 2013, the car was returned to its previous owner, collector Merle Dupree, but is now owned by Solo Speed Shop. Apparently, the sports car is up for sale “for restoration,” although it is possible that the buyer will decide to keep the Camaro in its current state as a memory of the actor’s hobby.
