A colorful collection of 1963 Corvettes will be put up for auction (21 photos)
A Mecum auction in early 2024 will sell a collection of seven second-generation Chevrolet Corvettes called the Split Window Colorama. They all represent the same 1963 model year, but differ in body colors and engines. The cars are sold individually, with the most expensive sports car expected to fetch up to half a million dollars.
Split Window is a designation for a rear window split into two halves, which the Corvette was equipped with for one model year only. Later, such glass was abandoned for safety reasons: Chevrolet decided that it impairs visibility.
Chevrolet produced about 10,000 Corvettes with this glass, and they are considered a collector's item. A certain fan collected seven 1963 coupes at once, and now he has decided to part with them.
All cars are equipped with a four-speed manual transmission in combination with a 5.36-liter eight-cylinder engine, but in different power options - from 300 to 360 hp. The mileage is also different - up to 115 thousand kilometers.
If auctioneers valued the most affordable car at a base price of 225 thousand dollars, then they want to earn 500 thousand for the most remarkable exhibit of the collection. This is a Corvette with only 36,600 miles on it. It is one of the rare Z06s, of which only 199 were built for the 1963 model year, and is in completely original condition. Moreover, the Corvette has right-hand drive, as it was intended for the Australian market.
