70-year-old handsome Aston Martin will be put up for auction (41 photos)
This coming weekend, a Sotheby's auction will be held in the United States, one of the main lots of which will be the Aston Martin DB2/4 coupe with a body from the Bertone studio. It is generally believed that this is the only Aston Martin with a hardtop, although there were only seven cars in the lot. For the 1954 two-door, auctioneers expect to fetch between $1.2 million and $1.6 million.
The initiative to create an Aston Martin with Bertone bodywork belongs to the American businessman Stanley Arnolt, who sold British cars in the early 1950s. He ordered seven cars from the Italians: all of them were different from each other in one way or another, but six of them were convertibles.
It is assumed that Bertone and Arnolt expected to release the coupe, which was called Arnolt-Aston Martin, in a small batch, but the British manufacturer refused to supply the required components to the coachbuilder. Therefore, the DB2/4 with chassis number LML/765 remained one of a kind.
The history of the car is well documented: it periodically changed owners, who from time to time restored and remodeled it, but the sports car experienced its most extensive restoration in the early 2020s with its current owner.
It cost about 800 thousand dollars. Aston Martin DB2/4 received, for example, the factory exterior color and original interior trim. In addition, the front bumper and rear lights of the original configuration were specially made for the car, which were modified by one of the previous owners. The coupe is still equipped with the 2.9-liter engine that was equipped from the factory almost 70 years ago.
