It became known that the auction house RM Sotheby's in the middle August will put up for auction an unusual Aston Martin V8. James car Bond will appear at the auction in the form in which he worked on the set site. The expected cost of the car is $1,800,000.
This is one of four Aston Martin V8 cars that participated in the filming of the 1987 film "Sparks from the Eyes" about the adventures of James Bond. The coupe will be sold with all the "spy" equipment from the film set sites.
The studio that made the film planned to borrow the cars directly from Aston Martin. However, the manufacturer refused to cooperate, as it could not cope with existing orders for V8: the queue stretched for a year and a half. So filmmakers had to get out of the situation in an unusual way.
Static scenes were filmed using fiberglass models of cars, which were prepared immediately by seven. For dynamic episodes, four used Aston Martin V8s were purchased (the copy offered for sale was released in 1973), which visually adapted to more modern models.
It was this coupe that was used in the filming of the final chase for frozen lake - the British sports car had to move away from the armada, consisting of military vehicles and several VAZ-2106. The car commits spectacular ski jump thanks to retractable skids and rocket launcher accelerator. All this equipment, as well as an internal roll cage diligently preserved.
Another unusual episode in the biography of this Aston is that he received a full-fledged power unit only a couple of years ago. Because the sports car at the end of the chase falls into a snowdrift, to simplify filming from it removed the engine and in this form in 1995 sold to one of collectors. Since then, the car has changed hands several times. hands, and it was equipped with an engine at the initiative of the current owner. This Authentic carburetor V8 with 5-speed ZF mechanics. Besides, the car was completely restored, and the “rocket booster” was added the ability to simulate flames.
Auctioneers call future auctions unique. Filmmakers "Sparks from the Eyes" sold out all four Aston Martin participating in the filming, but the other three are kept in private collections, and part with their owners, apparently, are not going to.
