Drunk woman climbs into chimney and gets stuck
Los Angeles firefighters pulled out a woman who climbed onto the roof of a historic building in San Fernando Park last night and got stuck in the chimney. The incident happened around 8 p.m., and the woman was rescued after a lengthy surgery.
According to San Fernando Police Sergeant Brian Woodward, the intoxicated woman climbed onto the roof, where she was seen dancing, and then ended up on the chimney. "She then climbed up the chimney and started dancing on it until she fell in and got stuck," the officer said in a video released by the fire department.
The woman was undressing before falling, apparently under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Witnesses recognized her as a homeless person who often hangs out in the area.
One witness, Israel Olivas, said: "I was walking with my little child, and she basically took off her shirt and pants and was on the roof... At first she wasn't screaming, she was just on top of the roof. And then she was screaming from the chimney: 'Help! My ankle hurts!'"
The fire department noted that the rescue operation was difficult and exhausting. The woman was safely removed from the chimney, after which she was placed in a wheelchair and handed over to medics.
The 30-year-old victim was hospitalized at a local hospital. According to rescuers, her condition is satisfactory.
As reported, such incidents are not the first in the United States - rescue services regularly remove people from vents, pipes and chimneys, most often due to reckless behavior or intoxication.
