Venturi 111 Cup 1991: French sports car made for Italians (13 photos)
French engineers Claude Poirot and Gerard Godfroy founded Venturi in Monaco in 1984, with which they wanted to compete with manufacturers with a long history, such as Aston Martin, Ferrari or Porsche. There was no breakthrough, and the brand is known a little or not just those who played Gran Turismo 2 in the late 90s.
Beautiful car on the background of the ocean. What could be better?!
A prototype was ready for the Paris Motor Show in 1986. named Venturi. It was a stylish sports car with an average engine layout, tubular frame and lightweight body fiberglass. The name used the word "venturi" - the effect Venturi in aerodynamics made it possible in the 1970s to significantly increase downforce of Formula 1 cars with the help of a profiled bottom (ground effect). A clear hint of sports and high technology! well and because MVS Venturi didn't sound very nice, after a while cars became known simply as Venturi!
The body is beautiful and, most importantly, proportional!
Even lifting headlights do not spoil the picture much!
Essentially an artisanal manufacturer, Venturi made spare parts throughout "automotive Europe", but in general it turned out pretty enough. Without changing the concept, the car is constantly improved, offering, in addition to styling changes, more powerful engines. If the prototype had a four-cylinder engine from Volkswagen Golf GTi, then in the late 1990s, customers were available Alpine A610 3.0-liter V6 with 310 hp It was proposed and A 400 hp road version of the Venturi 400 GT monocup capable of develop up to 290 km / h.

...behind it is a small trunk.
The cars were very good, but breaking into an established the sports car market and pushing the same Ferrari and Porsche is the task practically impossible. Although journalists and others experts praised the handling of Venturi cars, and the company was represented in motorsport, it is not possible to develop a large client base managed. Units of sports car enthusiasts, especially for outside of France, made their choice in favor of Venturi.
At the same time, many ambitious projects "burned down" much faster than Venturi, constantly teetering on the brink of ruin and changing owners, the company stayed afloat until 2000. Just, German sports cars are, among other things, quality and attention to details, Italian - style and passion, and from the French it was possible expect technical sophistication, but no tricky hydropneumatic Suspension (like Citroen) Venturi did not have. Actually there was no chips. Correct me if I don't know something.
In total, until the moment of final bankruptcy, the company managed to produce less than 600 Venturi cars of all modifications (there are different data, but the order of numbers is the same). In this connection, the car in the photo is of particular value. It's brand new, you won't find another one like it! The mileage is only 350 kilometers, the car has never stood on registered, and recently underwent a complete maintenance. Estimated such a Venturi today is in the region of $100,000 ("Time Capsule" in like a Porsche or Ferrari from the early 1990s would cost much more). Gotta take it!
The car is in the USA
There is a small snag - the engine. Vehicle assembled for Italian market, famous in those years for its draconian taxes for engines with a working volume of more than 2 liters! Therefore, here the motor from Renault 21 Turbo: 2 litre, 4 cylinders, turbocharged and fuel injected, 185 Horse power. Of course, with a light engine, the car is even better. managed and consumed much less fuel, but for such a machine motor is not good...
