The theft was caught on camera, and social media users called the news "a story that filmed itself."
In central London, a film crew from the Saudi Arabian TV channel Al Ekhbariya was robbed while preparing a report on the rise in thefts on the streets of the British capital. The incident took place on busy Oxford Street: the attacker in a grey jacket approached the camera, grabbed the equipment and quickly disappeared, and the entire incident was captured on camera, since filming was underway at the time.
The TV channel posted a video of the incident with an ironic comment on social networks, and users noted the absurdity of the situation - the journalists themselves became victims of what they were filming. According to the reporter, the theft occurred on the street with the most CCTV cameras in London, but this did not prevent the criminal from remaining unnoticed by passers-by and security.

The incident illustrates an acute problem: the number of thefts and the level of street crime in London has increased sharply, including the mass theft of mobile phones - according to the UK Home Office, as reported by the media, a phone is stolen in the country approximately every three minutes. Over the past year, the number of mobile phone thefts in the city has approached 73,000, while armed robberies and street attacks are also at record levels.
British authorities and NGOs are calling for increased patrols on central streets, but current measures have so far failed to stop the crime surge. The Saudi TV company's video quickly went viral and within a day had hundreds of comments - from both concerned citizens and ironic observers, who called the news "a story that filmed itself."
