Chinese GAC Aion has officially unveiled the new Hyper HT electric crossover with doors that open in the style of the Tesla Model X. The flagship version can travel up to 670 kilometers without recharging, and the power plant develops 335 hp.
The entry-level version of the Hyper HT is based on a 400-volt architecture. This model uses an electric motor on the rear axle producing 241 hp. and 355 Nm. This is enough to accelerate the model to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. GAC Aion also claims that this version can travel 600 km on the Chinese test cycle and that 140 km of range can be extended with 10 minutes of charging.
Three other versions of the Hyper HT will also be available, each with a more advanced 800-volt system. In addition, these three models are equipped with the same 335 hp electric motor. and 430 Nm, which reduces the acceleration time to 100 km/h to 5.8 seconds. Two of these versions can travel 670 km on a single charge and offer fast charging that can add 415 km of range in just 15 minutes.
Data released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology earlier this month showed the Hyper HT measures 4,935mm in length, 1,920mm in width and 1,700mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,935mm.
The external design of the model is relatively restrained. The front end features a pair of simple headlights, small air curtains and a thin lower grille bordered by slightly rumpled surfaces. The highlight of the Hyper HT design is the Tesla Model X style doors.
The interior of the Hyper HT features a stylish flat-bottom steering wheel and a digital instrument cluster. The crossover also features a large central infotainment display, two wireless charging pads, and a floating center console with a large storage compartment underneath. Rear passengers can recline their seats and slide out a small footrest from the front seatbacks. Additionally, the front passenger seat can be folded down into a space that allows the rear passenger to truly stretch out. A full panoramic glass roof is also standard.
