A Scottish couple drove their Tesla Model Y electric car to dine at an Edinburgh restaurant, and then had to take the crossover away on a tow truck because it refused to start. They had to wait about five hours for a tow truck from Tesla support on the road, and the cost of repairs announced the next day by the dealer nearly gave them a heart attack.



The repair bill for the Model Y was £17,374. The culprit, Tesla representatives said, was rainy weather.

Tesla's Edinburgh service center said the Model Y's battery will have to be replaced after it failed due to flooding. It turned out that such a breakdown is not covered by the factory warranty, so the owners will have to repair the electric car at their own expense. Tesla service never explained how exactly the water got into the battery. At the same time, both sides agreed that the weather in Edinburgh that day was not the best, although nothing extraordinary was observed for Scotland.

By rejecting its obligations, Tesla essentially admitted that the Model Y is unsuitable for use in Scotland, the victim noted. In addition, he said that he would not have bought an electric car for 60 thousand pounds if he had known in advance about the quality of service.
