This video demonstrates a popular, but extremely dangerous, folk method of bead-fitting a tire using a flammable mixture. The participants in the video decided to use the explosive force of gasoline or aerosol vapors to seat the tire on the rim, but miscalculated the dosage. The result was predictable and dramatic: instead of a soft landing, the tire exploded. The video serves as an excellent reminder that, in technical matters, precision and safety are more important than dubious time savings.
A flammable substance is sprayed into the tire, which, when ignited, expands sharply, creating pressure that presses the tire beads against the rim. Without accurately calculating the amount of mixture, the pressure can be excessive, leading to damage to the tire cord, wheel deformation, or injury to bystanders. Modern services use a "booster" for this purpose—a reservoir of compressed air that delivers a powerful stream through a narrow nozzle, which is much safer and more effective.
