A new off-road electric vehicle from Vanderhall
Vanderhall, known for its sporty three-wheeled vehicle, has just introduced a brand new model that is unlike anything else from the brand. In fact, it has no analogues on the market. The model is called the Brawley GTS. This all-electric SUV has been in development for several years, and deliveries to customers have already begun in the United States.
The Brawley was first shown in 2021 and has since evolved into a production-ready adventure vehicle that, unfortunately, cannot be used on public roads. It has obvious Jeep Wrangler-inspired elements, including the grille and round headlights. But for the most part, it looks unique and is a compact two-door model that should be ideal for narrow trails and desert racing.
Power at Every Wheel
Vanderhall has equipped the Brawley GTS with a 40 kWh lithium-ion battery that powers four electric motors, one at each wheel. The combined output is 404 hp and 650 Nm of torque, promising lively dynamics on poor surfaces. The original plan to offer a larger 60 kWh battery has quietly disappeared, leaving buyers with only the standard equipment.
Given the small size of the available battery and the power on offer, it’s no surprise that the Brawley’s range isn’t particularly impressive. In fact, Vanderhall claims it can only go 140 miles (225 km) on a single charge, so owners should be cautious about taking on too many off-road trips without access to a charger.
Interior and Final Price
Despite its compact size, the SUV offers four seats and is richly decorated, with plenty of leather throughout. One of the most interesting features are the large glass windows built into the door panels.
Vanderhall originally announced a starting price of $34,950, but that was nearly four years ago. Now, buyers looking to get their hands on the model will have to pay at least $49,950, another reminder that electric vehicle prices rarely stay the same and almost never change in the buyer’s favor.
The arrival of the Brawley GTS demonstrates the growing interest of niche manufacturers in the electric SUV market. While the limited range may be a significant drawback for some buyers, the unique design and focus exclusively on off-road applications may find their connoisseur. The price increase since the announcement also reflects the general trend in the electric vehicle industry, where costs often increase faster than expected.
