Tesla Model S and Model X to Be Discontinued This Year (3 photos)

Tesla's passenger car lineup currently consists of five vehicles. These include the relatively new Cybertruck, the slightly younger Model 3 and Model Y, and the true veterans of the Model S, which debuted in 2013, and the Model X, which debuted in 2015. For the last two vehicles on the list, 2026 will be their last. Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the end of their production during a Q4 2025 investor meeting.

These electric vehicles are scheduled to be retired as early as the second quarter of 2026. Neither the Model S nor the Model X will have successors in the near future. The two models at Tesla's California plant will be replaced by... robots. Yes, according to Elon Musk's plan, robotics, initially represented by humanoid Optimus vehicles, will be a key part of the company's future. Their production volume is expected to reach 1 million units per year, but when exactly Tesla will reach these figures has not been announced.

It's worth noting that the American manufacturer doesn't intend to abandon the automobile business entirely, but its focus in this area will apparently increasingly shift to autonomous solutions. Tesla plans to fully debut commercial self-driving taxis based on the Cybercab, and the second-generation Roadster, expected in 2021, has once again been promised for a public debut in 2026.
