More than 1,000 silver and gold coins have been found near the legendary "Treasure Coast" in Florida. This helps reconstruct the history of a 1715 fleet that sank in bad weather.

The treasure was recovered from the sea by Captain Levin Shavers and his crew. This "impressive find" was made in the summer, but it only recently became public knowledge. This was reported in a BILD report published on October 4.

Experts estimate the value of the coins found near the "Treasure Coast" to be approximately one million dollars. They come from the Spanish fleet of 1715. It is believed to have consisted of 11 ships and sank on July 31st due to a hurricane, taking the lives of approximately 1,000 people. The ships were scheduled to sail for Spain with the riches of the New World.

Historians estimate the losses at approximately $400 million. This event is considered one of the largest treasure tragedies to occur in the United States. Divers have recovered 1,051 silver and five gold coins.

"This find is valuable not only in itself, but also for the stories it tells," emphasized Sal Guttuso, head of the shipwreck salvage company Queens Jewels.

He explained that each coin is a "piece of history" and is connected to the people who lived and worked in these territories during the Golden Age of the Spanish Empire.

"Finding 1,000 of these coins at once is a rare and extraordinary occurrence," Guttuso assured.

Many so-called "eights" were minted in the colonies of Mexico, Peru, and Bolivia. The mint marks and dates have been preserved clearly, making them a true treasure trove for historians and collectors. Experts believe all the coins found on the seabed were hidden in a single chest when the ship sank.

The treasures were recovered from the water under strict government supervision, using modern technology and adhering to archaeological requirements. Guttuso stated that each find will help reconstruct the history of the 1715 fleet.

The coins are planned to be put on display soon, so Florida residents and visitors will be able to see this treasure from the past with their own eyes.
