A woman who had sex with monks and earned $11 million through blackmail will be tried in Thailand (5 photo)
The lady filmed her pleasures on video, after which she demanded money from the monks for silence.
Thai monks take a vow of celibacy, but not all of them observe it. Not long ago, a story came to light in which an enterprising woman blackmailed monks. Over three years, 35-year-old Vilavan Emsawat from Nonthaburi province had relationships with nine Buddhist priests, whom she then persistently conned out of money, AP News reports.
She blackmailed someone with photos and videos of sexual pleasures, lied to someone that she was pregnant and demanded money for alimony. One of those seduced gave his mistress $200,000. In total, according to Thai law enforcement, the madam earned about $11.9 million. The woman spent part of this amount on online bets.
Wilavan Emsawat
The investigation is reported to have begun after one of the monks, the abbot of a famous temple, suddenly left his monastery. He then confessed to having an affair with a woman who blackmailed him with pregnancy. Wilavan demanded 7.2 million baht from him, and the police were able to confirm the monk's words by tracking bank transfers. The money went from the monastery accounts directly to the seductress's accounts. Over three years, the abbot transferred about 385 million baht to his mistress.
Detention of a treacherous seductress
At present, the Thai woman has been detained on charges of extortion, money laundering and possession of stolen goods. During the search, numerous videos and photographs were found on the lady, which recorded moments of intimate meetings with monks, as well as screenshots of the woman's correspondence with her lovers. The investigation believes that all these materials were used for blackmail.
Law enforcement officers are confident that "the woman is dangerous and must be arrested as soon as possible." However, the scandal also caused a discussion of monasticism. The government has announced the need to tighten controls over donations to temples and the behavior of clergy, and the Central Investigation Bureau, following criticism of the monasteries, has created a Facebook page* where people can complain about inappropriate behavior by monks. It is also reported that a raid will soon be conducted to check monasteries across the country.
The detainee has not commented on the charges, although she admitted that she had an affair with one person. It is also known that nine abbots and senior monks involved in the scandal were defrocked and expelled from the monastic community, the Central Investigation Bureau of the Royal Thai Police reported.
