Chinese monks have a lot of strange traditions. Yes, in one from the monasteries of China, a monk who died four years ago was honored with one of the greatest posthumous honors - he was turned into a golden mummy. hardly whether someone other than Chinese monks would like this way of resting.
This is a photograph of Fu Hou, a very revered and respected monk who lived most of his life in Chongfu Temple in China. He died in 2012 year at the age of 94.
After he died, his body was mummified and sealed in a tomb, which was just a large earthenware jug. Four years later, at the beginning of 2023, the jar was opened and the body was exhumed.
The body was then washed, covered with layers of gauze, varnish, and finally several layers of gold leaf.
This burial tradition is considered very honorable and reserved only for the most respected monks.
It is believed that only the bodies of the most sinless monks, when removed from the jug, will remain incorruptible.
Fu Hou's body will be placed in the monastery hall of sacred relics in Dongdan tomb. People will be able to come there to worship him.
