Girls of the 40s and 50s in the lens of the greatest female photographer (18 photos)
Nina Lin is one of the greatest female photographers in the world.
She grew up in Europe (where she studied art) and moved to America in 1939.
Nina became one of the first female photographers for Life magazine - she was first published in April 1940.
In total, during her career, Nina's photographs were published on more than 50 covers of various publications (40 of which are in her native Life magazine).
Nina Lin started with reportage photography, where she showed morals and customs of American society, but she left her mark on history fashion pictures. Nina has also done portraits for celebrities and members of high society, including royalty.
In Nina's photographs, you can find completely different images - from simple housewives and teenage girls, to popular actresses and models of that era. Most of the presented works were made in the 40-50s, one might say - on the eve of the sexual revolution.
Lin's works perfectly combine staging and reportage the photo. Sometimes it seems that the models accidentally got into frame without knowing it. In fact, this is the result of serious work and special lightness of the photographer. More importantly, Lin's shots didn't just decorate pages of magazines, but became real masterpieces of marketing - a selling photograph, as some would say now.
