A modern Chevrolet Camaro was converted into a 1969 Chevelle and put up for auction (19 photos)
This weekend, Mecum will auction off an unusual restomod — a relatively modern car styled as a 1969 muscle car. The 2015 Chevrolet Camaro convertible was given the appearance of a Chevelle SS. The auction does not publish price expectations. The car has traveled about 40,000 miles, and judging by the photos, its condition is far from ideal. More than 2,000 hours of work were spent on creating the restomod.
The Chevrolet Camaro has acquired new chrome bumpers, different fenders and a hood with a large air intake, as well as a vintage radiator grille. The convertible is equipped with custom lighting, using separate headlights integrated into square frames in the front. Some of the new body panels are made of carbon fiber-reinforced fiberglass and molded by hand.
There are significantly fewer modifications to the interior - their list is limited to the installation of headrests from the original Chevelle SS. At the same time, the auction notes that this way, all modern options have been preserved on a car with a vintage design, including a media system, ventilated seats and air conditioning.
The restomod is powered by a modern engine, which with a volume of 6.2 liters develops 426 hp and works with an automatic transmission. It is claimed that more than 2 thousand hours of work were spent on creating a hybrid of Camaro and Chevelle.
