A Collection of 33 Rare Chevrolets Will Be Put Up for Auction (13 photos)
In January, Mecum will hold a sale of a car collection called the Tornado Collection. It consists of 33 cars, 29 of which were produced by Chevrolet at different times. The auctioneers claim that the cars in the collection, which include rare and notable examples, have not appeared in public for decades. Price expectations have not yet been made public.
The reason for hiding the collection from the public is not specified, but it is known why they decided to sell it. The auction house claims that the current owner decided to get rid of the rarities because of a tornado that once hit the hangar with the cars. The building was heavily damaged, but the cars were almost unharmed. The collection was named after this tornado.
The Chevrolets included in it were produced between 1955 and 2012. More than a dozen of them are Corvettes of different years, including first-generation examples, 11 Camaros, several Impalas, and a number of other models. The collection includes cars in special versions, as well as rarities released in limited editions. For example, this is a 1970 Corvette ZR1, which exists in only 25 copies, one of 69 Copo Camaros produced in 2013, and one of three Camaro Z28s built in 1993 to participate in the Indy 500 as pace cars.
In addition to Chevrolets, the collection also includes a Pontiac GTO, a Plymouth Cuda restomod, and two open-top Cadillacs — the Allante and the XLR. According to preliminary data, the total cost of the meeting could be in the millions of dollars.
