In the US, RM Sotheby's auctioned the 1954 Pegaso Z-102 sports coupe. They plan to get about a million dollars for the rare car. This is reported by Focus.
The Spanish manufacturer Pegaso is better known for buses and trucks, but in the 50s also produced sports cars. Not only that, the Pegaso Z-102 was the fastest car of its time.
The Pegaso Z-102 sports car was equipped with V8 engines with power from 175 to 360 hp. The maximum speed in the top version was 243 km/h.
Only 84 Pegaso Z-102s were produced, but only 8 of them (like this car) received the Berlinetta coupe body from the French atelier Saoutchik. Its founder and leading designer was Ukrainian Yakiv Savchyk.
Yakiv Savchyk (real name – Savchuk) emigrated to France as a child at the end of the 19th century. He founded a body shop in the suburbs of Paris. Savchyk worked not only with Pegaso, but also with Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Benz, Hispano-Suiza. His works are characterized by an avant-garde style.
This Pegaso Z-102 Berlinetta was commissioned by Yakov Savchyk for Spanish aristocrat Pedro Domec de la Riva. Later, the car changed hands and moved to the USA. The sports car underwent restoration and repeatedly won awards at retrocar shows.
