An unusual sports car, the Strosek Mega Speedster, will be up for auction this month at Mecum. This is the work of Vittorio Strozek's studio, which produced only 15 of these machines. Since 1994, the speedster has driven only 9.5 thousand kilometers; the car is expected to fetch between 300 and 350 thousand dollars.
The tradition of the Strosek studio was to use the word Mega in the names of their cars. The Mega Speedster up for sale is based on Porsche's factory speedster, which in turn is based on the 964 911 Carrera 2. Porsche built only 936 of these sports cars, of which 427 were destined for the US market.
Vittorio Strozek developed his own body for the Porsche 911 Speedster with widened wheel arches and an original design of the front end, the main distinguishing feature of which was very compact lighting equipment. In addition, the Strosek Mega Speedster features a retuned suspension with 17-inch OZ wheels and a new interior trim that retains the original factory Recaro seats.
The speedster is equipped with a standard 3.6-liter boxer engine producing 360 hp. mated to a five-speed manual transmission and was capable of accelerating to 100 km/h in approximately 6 seconds.
Last January, another sports car from Strosek called the Mega 30 was put up for sale. This is a coupe based on the Porsche 911 in the 964 body with a slightly less radically redesigned appearance, as well as a modernized interior and powertrain. They asked for 300 thousand euros for the sports car.
