A 1993 Porsche 911 RSR 3.8 without mileage is planned to be sold for $2.5 million (8 photos)
Bonhams auction on November 25 will put up for auction the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.8. The car was built in 1993 and has only driven 10 kilometers since then. What's more, it's one of only two road-legal RSR 3.8s ever produced in this body style. For these reasons, they expect to fetch up to $2.5 million for the coupe.
Auctioneers call the RSR 3.8 version the pinnacle of development of the Porsche 911 in the back of the 964. The track sports car was developed on the basis of the already existing Carrera RS with a 3.6-liter engine, and in the early 1990s it won many titles in GT racing, including victories in prestigious daily races for endurance.
The RSR 3.8 version featured, for example, a wider Turbo-style body and an upgraded 3.8-liter engine. According to official estimates, it developed from 325 to 350 hp, according to unofficial estimates - up to 375 hp.
By the time production of the 911 ended, around 50 examples of the RSR 3.8 had been assembled in the 964 body. Only two of them received the name Strassenversion, that is, they were allowed on regular roads. The example offered for sale is believed to be the only one of this series with a fully decorated interior, which retains the roll cage, but is also richly trimmed in leather.
The car already had several owners, but none of them used the sports car for its intended purpose. It is alleged that the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.8 even retains the factory protective coating in some places.
The second of the “street” RSR 3.8 will also soon go under the hammer: the auction will take place in December. A car of the same year will be put up for sale by RM Sotheby's. Its mileage is a little longer and is 70 kilometers, but it is also planned to earn up to 2.5 million dollars for the coupe. This Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.8 will be sold as part of the extensive Porsche White Collection.
