A girl found dinosaur footprints aged 200 million years (5 photos)
While walking along the beach, 10-year-old Tegan spotted several similarly shaped large footprints on the rocky shore. The schoolgirl guessed that they could be prehistoric, and her mother Claire reported this to experts.
Scientists have concluded that five footprints discovered near Penarth, South Wales, UK, belong to the dinosaur Camelotia. The creature from the suborder Sauropodomorpha reached 4.5 m in height.
Tegan shared: "It was so cool and exciting. We just wanted to see what we could find. We didn't think we'd find anything interesting. We found big indentations that looked like dinosaur tracks, so my mom took some photos and sent them to the museum. It turned out they were long-necked dinosaur prints."
This stretch of coastline is a favorite among fossil hunters. In 2021, four-year-old Lily Wilder found another dinosaur print nearby.
Palaeontologist Cindy Howells from the National Museum of Wales examined the find and said: "We have five prints, spaced between half and three-quarters of a metre apart. They are so big that it must be a type of dinosaur called a sauropodomorph."
"It's quite a significant object. It's incredibly exciting when we hear about things like this."
