Why dinosaur costumes sell best in Japan (6 photos)
You know, where the most races, games and gatherings in full-length tyrannosaurus costumes are held on the planet. I think you already know the answer. This hobby should definitely have taken root in Japan.
How it all started
Not in Japan. The first races in inflatable tyrannosaurus rexes were held in 2019 in the state of Washington, Auburn. The whole event was filmed, it went viral online... and won the hearts of the Japanese. As much as anywhere else in the West.
God willing, they will spend one there in a year. But in Japan, in a couple of years, 40 events have already been held throughout the country, and the Japanese are still upset if they couldn’t get to some competition.
Well, it’s funny, black is generally the most energetic!
The first official T. rex race in Japan took place in April 2022 in the city of Daisen. Immediately after the Covid quarantine, everyone really enjoyed finally getting out into the fresh air. And away we go...
Japan has some of the highest sales of these inflatable suits, with rare colors being specially imported, as you can see in the photo from the event. I have never seen a Tyrannosaurus skeleton anywhere else.
They also have a dinosaur cheerleader with flags)
Why in Japan?!
For the same reason why people in Japan love one-eyed face masks and wear masks in general.
- Runners can do things they can't do when they're regular people. When you're a T. rex, nothing is asked of you, explains one of the organizers of the T. rex race in Daisen.
The boy next to his sister, still without cosplexes, participates in a dinosaur party without a dinosaur mask. Did you see the skeletal dinosaur in the background?
Another way for the Japanese to throw off social pressure and expectations and relax at least a little. Seriously, the Japanese are simply masters at coming up with new ways of escapism, I even feel sorry for them.
One of the latest dinosaur races in Chiba attracted 60 runners. We even had to divide the races into children's, adult for females and adult for males. Yes, not men and women, but males and females - the Japanese take things seriously.
And this is some kind of racially limited race, they only took brown ones, they didn’t take pink ones...
And at last year’s April race there was a record – 200 individuals ran! The only requirement is to have a suit with you; no physical training is required. But to reduce injuries, the dinosaurs are given a warm-up on the lawn before the race (in costumes, of course).
And you can walk around the park and pretend to be a dinosaur. Sounds like a summer plan!
