The Police Didn't Come After a Break-In: An Entrepreneur Tracked Down the Criminals Himself (4 photos)
A restaurant owner has been left to investigate a robbery on his own after police refused to attend the scene. He was advised to simply email the CCTV footage.
After a nighttime robbery at a restaurant in the port city of Southampton, in the south of England, in which doors were broken down and alcohol was stolen, the owner was left to gather evidence on his own because police failed to send any officers to the scene. According to the Daily Mail, police advised the businessman to email them the footage.
The crime occurred at about 4:00 a.m. Several people broke into the restaurant, stole the cash register with cash and more than 20 bottles of alcohol. The owner arrived almost immediately after the call from the employees and personally discovered traces of the theft: a broken cash register and stolen bottles lying nearby.
According to the businessman, the losses amounted to several thousand pounds. Just restoring the broken doors will cost more than 1 thousand pounds, and a new cash system - about 500 more. Despite significant damage, the restaurant continued to operate.
The man noted that even after asking for an officer to be sent later that day, the police did not visit the establishment. He was again asked to send evidence by email. Therefore, the businessman stated: "The damage had already been done, but the officers did not want to visit the restaurant."
A statement on the establishment's social media page stated that three unknown individuals broke down the front door, damaged the premises and stole valuable property. Restaurant workers called it "a blow both financially and emotionally."
The police explained that the decision to go to the scene is made based on a risk assessment. Cases where there is no threat to life or the offender on site can be investigated remotely. Currently, according to a police representative, the investigation is ongoing, video from surveillance cameras is being reviewed.
