A unique water skier whose age does not prevent her from surfing the open spaces and setting records (5 photos + 1 video)
In terms of age, this resident of Salt Lake City (Utah, USA) is very much a grandmother. Even great-grandmother. But it’s hard to call Dwan Jacobsen Young a young, slender lady that way. Although she is 93 years old. Age does not stop Mrs. Young from loving adventure, water skiing and setting records.
Dwan has been water skiing since 1961, starting at the age of 29. After purchasing a summer home on Bear Lake, located between Utah and Idaho, Dwan noticed that water skiing was very popular in the area.
And I decided to take part in this entertainment and test myself. This is how Dwan discovered her favorite hobby.
“Before I go into the water, I always feel butterflies in my stomach,” admits Dwan.
After much effort and numerous failures, she finally managed to master slalom. That moment remains Young's favorite water skiing memory.
A woman always takes precautions when riding and stops if the water becomes too rough or choppy.
Dwan skis with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who are also her main fans, coaches and inspirers.
Her husband thinks she's crazy, her friends are surprised at her courage, and her family supports her. At Christmas dinner, relatives arranged a surprise for the conqueror of the water surface.
The granddaughter turned on a video from the summer rides, and then, to the applause of all her relatives, she presented her grandmother with the official certificate of the Guinness Book of Records record holder. The document confirmed that Dwan was the oldest female water skier.
There were no sports records in the woman’s life. But she is not upset. Taking into account her age, the mere fact that she can still ride and enjoy the process is already great:
I am very lucky to have good health, which allows me to enjoy life to the fullest.
The record holder is sure that it was water skiing that taught her not to give up on achieving her goals. And he advises everyone not to give up when trying out a new sport. After all, every person is capable of more than may seem at first glance.
