Geely Unveils Monjaro EM-i Hybrid (11 Photos)

Geely has officially unveiled a new version of its Monjaro crossover in Egypt, carrying the EM-i badge. The updated model features a hybrid powertrain alongside an all-wheel-drive system—a first for the gas-electric variants of this SUV. Following its Egyptian debut, the crossover is set to roll out in Mexico, the UAE, and Kazakhstan, before making its way to Europe.





On the outside, the car is virtually identical to the gas-powered Monjaro, though under the skin it swaps out the CMA platform for the new GEA Evo architecture. As a bonus, the hybrid is slightly larger than the current model, measuring 5 mm longer (4,800 mm) and 11 mm taller (1,700 mm).

Inside, the updates to the Monjaro EM-i are far more apparent. The crossover features a redesigned center console where the traditional gear shifter has been replaced by a rotary dial. Surrounding it is a minimalist climate control panel and a hazard lights button. While the engine start button has been removed from the dashboard, the screen lineup remains unchanged from the ICE model, featuring a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen. The export version skips the third passenger screen.

Powering the Monjaro EM-i is a parallel plug-in hybrid setup built around a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine making 144 hp. Base models pair the engine with a single electric motor integrated into a 3-speed DHT hybrid transmission. Top-tier trims add a second electric motor to drive the rear wheels. Total system outputs stand at 279 hp (544 Nm) and 340 hp (667 Nm), respectively. Front-wheel-drive models pack an 18.4 kWh battery pack delivering up to 92 km of electric-only range, while all-wheel-drive variants get a larger 29.8 kWh pack for up to 130 km of zero-emission driving.
