Eleven years after the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt RED announced a major new story expansion, titled "Songs of the Past." Geralt of Rivia will once again be the protagonist.
CD Projekt and Fool's Theory have confirmed work on a third expansion for The Witcher 3.
The expansion will be released in 2027 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Details of the expansion, titled "Ballads of the Past," will be revealed this summer.
Along with the expansion, the minimum system requirements for the game will change: they will now include an i5-8400, GTX 1660, 12 GB of RAM, and an SSD. Support for Windows 10, HDD, and DX11 will be dropped in favor of Windows 11, SSD, and DX12.
Fool's Theory, the studio responsible for the expansion, was founded by former CD Projekt employees, including several leading developers of The Witcher 3. The studio is also working on the upcoming remake of the first game.
According to rumors, the expansion will serve as a story bridge between The Witcher 3 and the upcoming The Witcher 4, which will star Ciri. The setting has been suggested to be the eastern desert of Zerrikania or the already familiar Velen.
