Skoda will bring a crossover from India to Europe for under $8,000 (14 photos)
Skoda is exploring new, easy-to-implement ways to regain a strong position in the lower-cost segments of the European market. As CEO Klaus Zellmer told Automotive News, one such opportunity could be the sale of the Kylaq crossover, originally developed for India, to Europe. Here, it costs less than 8,000 dollars.
Skoda introduced the Kylaq crossover for the Indian market at the end of 2024, and by 2025, it helped double Volkswagen Group sales in the country due to strong demand. The crossover is based on the MQB-A0 platform—a simplified version of the company's modular platform specifically for India—and is equipped with a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing just 113 hp.
The engine comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, with a classic automatic transmission available as an option. The crossover's compact size also helped keep its price down: the Kylaq is under 4 meters long, making it shorter than the European Fabia.
It is expected that Skoda will not be able to maintain the Kylaq's price if it is sold in Europe, but the crossover will nevertheless be ultra-affordable by regional standards. However, the company has not yet announced a start date for these deliveries.
