Cats vs. Miners: How Stray Animals Stopped a Crypto Farm in China (5 photos)
In October 2025, an unusual wool incident occurred in the Chinese province of Inner Mongolia.
About 200 stray cats infiltrated an underground mining farm, attracted by the heat emanating from the operating video cards. Seeking shelter from the autumn cold, the animals climbed directly onto the equipment, completely blocking the cooling system.
As a result of overheating, the mining machines' performance dropped sharply. The hash rate dropped by a significant percentage, and some video cards failed and required replacement.
The owner estimates the losses at several million dollars, including repair costs and lost profits during the days of downtime. A farm operating in defiance of China's 2021 mining ban was paralyzed for several days.
To the surprise of many, the farm owner didn't chase away the animals. Instead, he purchased over two hundred heating mats and built a separate, warm room for the cats next to the room. Now, the mining area is protected by nets, and the furry "invaders" live in comfort under the supervision of staff. One of them noted, "It was expensive, but nice."
The story quickly went viral on social media. Many called the incident symbolic: while authorities are fighting mining with bans, nature has resolved the issue in its own way. This isn't the first time animals have interfered with crypto farms, but it's certainly the cutest and most memorable.
