The M62 motorway connecting the cities of Liverpool and Hull in Northern England, famous for being right between its two branches in Calderdale is a residential farm. The unique farm is in the top ten the most famous sights of the motorway network Great Britain, and there are different stories and myths about it.
Stott Hall Farm is the only farm in the world built right in the middle of a busy highway. She's surrounded by fences which do not let livestock on the road, and unmanaged vehicles funds for farm land.
But how did it happen that the farm ended up on this island? One of the most popular myths claims that the owners of Stott Hall Farm, Ken and Beth Wild, refused to sell it, and because of this the road had to be split.
However, in reality it was not so.
According to a 1983 ITV documentary, the owners the Stott Hall farms were never asked to sell their land. During construction of the M62 motorway back in the 1960s, engineers determined that due to the geological fault on Wild's site it is more practical to build roads around the farm than through it, so they just let owners to stay.
“A geological fault under the farmhouse meant that it was more practical for the engineers to leave it than to try to break through him,” confirms journalist Michael Clegg.
Wondering what it's like to live on a farm in the middle of a highway?
This place must be a nightmare in terms of traffic noise and pollution, judging by the traffic around it! However, those who lived on the farm Stott-Hall argue the exact opposite. Because of the windows with the triple glazing in a farmhouse almost inaudible noise, except for random horns in the middle of the night, and the air is surprisingly clear.
The current owners of the farm, Jill Falkingham-Thorpe, her husband Paul and son John William, claim that the farm has a surprisingly low level pollution for a place located in the middle of a motorway.
They say they enjoy their peaceful life on one of the most peculiar farms in the world. But they admit that sometimes it happens lonely, as the closest friends live about half an hour away.
It is somehow strange to talk about loneliness when your Thousands of people drive by every day! Yes, there is a nuance: unfamiliar of people.
