Chinese Automaker Builds a Porsche Taycan: The $16,000 MG 07 Electric Liftback (14 Photos)
The base model comes equipped with a panoramic sunroof, leather interior, heated and ventilated seats, a 15.6-inch display, 360-degree cameras, and adaptive cruise control. In China, pricing starts at ¥105,900 ($16,000)—and the first 10,000 orders were snapped up in just 1 minute and 57 seconds. 
SAIC-owned brand MG has launched sales of its new 07 model in China, announcing plans to expand assembly capacity just one day later. The move comes on the heels of unprecedented initial demand: confirmed orders for the 07 crossed the milestone 10,000 mark in a record-breaking 1 minute and 57 seconds after order books opened. The company had previously faced criticism over the 07's striking resemblance to the Porsche Taycan.
MG described the surging demand as an all-time record for the brand. The previous record-holder was the MG4, which took 39 minutes and 37 seconds to hit 10,000 orders. Overall, roughly 45,000 buyers placed orders for the MG 07 on its very first day on the market.
Much of the MG 07's popularity likely stems from its aggressive pricing structure. The liftback debuted across seven trim levels, priced between 108,900 and 159,900 yuan ($16,200 to $23,800) before any launch incentives.
Measuring 4,886 millimeters in length, the MG 07 boasts a wheelbase of 2,825 millimeters. The new model is offered with both hybrid and fully electric powertrains.
The hybrid variant pairs a 111-hp internal combustion engine with a 207-hp electric motor. This setup delivers an electric-only range of 245 kilometers and a total combined range of up to 1,745 kilometers. All-electric versions offer either 239 or 320 hp, with a single-charge range of up to 845 kilometers depending on the battery option.
Depending on the trim level, features include active suspension, ultra-comfort seating, an infotainment system with a 15.6-inch display and 21 speakers, as well as an electrochromic panoramic glass roof.
