New Mazda Model Availability

Mazda has just released pricing details for the EZ-60 in China, which may make some in other regions jealous. The exciting SUV is available in both a fully electric and a range-extending hybrid version, with a starting price that's roughly the same as the new Nissan Versa in the US.

Key Model Features

Pricing and Variants

The EZ-60 was developed as part of a joint venture between Mazda and Changan and is intended for sale overseas under the CX-6e designation. In China, the base hybrid version with the extended range feature will start at 119,900 yuan, equivalent to approximately $16,800.

Buyers willing to spend more can opt for the Pro and Max hybrid versions, which start at 129,900 yuan ($18,200) and 138,900 yuan ($19,500), respectively. All hybrid versions use a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine that acts as a generator to charge a 31.7 kWh battery pack that powers a 255 hp rear-mounted electric motor.

Electric versions

A fully electric version is also offered in Base, Pro and Max trim levels. The most affordable electric model will cost from 139,900 yuan ($19,600), the Pro version from 149,900 yuan ($21,000), and the Max from 160,900 yuan ($22,600).

Electric technology

Like the hybrid model, the electric version is equipped with a 255 hp rear electric motor, but instead of a motor-generator, it uses a 77.94 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery. According to the manufacturer, the range is up to 600 km on the CLTC cycle.

Interior and Exterior

On the outside, the EZ-60 has typical Mazda features, but the interior is different from models sold in the West. It includes a large 26.5-inch 5K display that acts as an infotainment system and a screen for the passenger. The manufacturer has also added AR projection on the windshield up to 100 inches and replaced traditional rearview mirrors with cameras.

International prospects

As mentioned, the EZ-60 will be sold outside of China under the name CX-6e, particularly in Europe. Unfortunately, this model is not planned for delivery to the United States.

The availability of the Mazda EZ-60 in China could be an important step in the brand's global strategy, especially against the backdrop of increasing competition in the electric car market. The use of shared platforms with local partners allows the company to optimize costs, making technologies previously available only in premium segments more widespread. However, the absence of the model in key markets such as the United States could limit its impact on the global auto market.
