Mazda has declassified a new crossover with the CX-70 index. Detailed technical data have not yet been announced, but it is already clear that the new product will be an almost exact copy of the older CX-90 model, with the exception of the interior configuration. The all-terrain vehicle will go on sale this year.
It was previously assumed that the Mazda CX-70 would be noticeably more compact than the CX-90, but both crossovers have an identical wheelbase of 3119 millimeters, and the length of the new product differs only by a few millimeters. Most likely, the reason for this is the modified exterior design. The Mazda CX-70 has received a slightly sportier appearance due to new bumpers, and the chrome trim has been replaced by a darkened one - this also applies to the filling of the radiator grille.
Judging by the interior photo, there will be no radical changes in the cabin either. At the same time, Mazda has already promised to equip the CX-70 for the North American market with Amazon's Alexa voice assistant - the crossover will be the first Mazda with this function. In addition, the abandonment of the third row of seats made it possible to increase the volume of the cargo compartment and create additional space for luggage under its floor.
The SUV received not only the same platform as the CX-90, but also similar power units. This is a 3.3-liter in-line six and a hybrid unit based on a 2.5-liter four. Their output for the CX-70 has not yet been named; on the older model they provide 345 and 327 hp. respectively. All-wheel drive is promised to be included in the basic equipment.
In the near future, the new Mazda crossover will appear in Europe. It should be designated CX-80 and is expected to be a scaled-up version of the current CX-60. In addition, the company does not plan to abandon more compact models that have already earned market recognition: for example, the CX-5 all-terrain vehicle is due to change its generation in 2025.
